Facilitator Expectations and Commitments

2009, August 1st

Issue 4

The ministry of Small Groups is among the most important for evangelizing, establishing, and equipping. In order to help your Small Group facilitators be the most effective and supported as possible, we encourage you to share these expectations with your facilitators and ask for their commitment.

Spiritual Maturity

  • Regularly pray, read the scriptures and attend mass.
  • Regularly attend Large Group ministry and/or other faith formation and social functions.

Prayer and Preparation

  • Spend time in prayer and preparation for each week’s Small Group.
  • Regularly intercede for the members in the group.

Recruitment Efforts

  • Attend several welcome week activities to recruit for attendees, such as the barbecue, Frosh Za, Block Party, grad welcome, camping trip, mall tables, dorm tables, Friday night socials and tailgates.
  • Be present before and after two masses to invite people to your small group on at least two of the following Sundays: Sept 5, Sept 12.
  • Personally contact all those who register on-line for the group before the first session.
  • Contact people who signed up but did not show up.

Training

  • Attend facilitator meetings throughout semester.
  • Attend the EC Institute in the spring.

Build Community

Spend time with the Small Group outside of the meeting times, like attending other functions and having dinner together.

Accountability and Support

  • Fill out a brief online report within 24 hours of each session led.
  • Meet with Coordinator of Small Groups (as needed, but at least once a semester).

Multiplying Leaders

Identify one to two new potential leaders within the group, give them opportunities to lead portions of the study, and have them attend the EC Institute in spring.
